At a time when design was the sole domain of men, appeared Nanna Ditzel.

Born in Copenhagen in 1923, trained as a cabinetmaker and furniture designer. She established a design studio with her husband 1946, and continued to work in the design sector until shortly before her death in Copenhagen in June 2005.

Her deep understanding of furniture making  allowed her to experiment with innovative materials like fiberglass and foam , and also refine traditional techniques like wickerwork.

Most of hes pieces are based on circular forms, as one of the most famous, the Easy Chair, designed in 1952.

Since 1965, Kvadrat has been continuosly producing the collection designed by  Ditzel, Hallingdal:  a plain weave that combines two colours  (of wool and viscose), created and developed to remain in perfect conditions for decades.

At an age when most other people have long since retired, the grand old lady of Danish design continued to attract worldwide attention .
