As good lover of interior design, I deeply admire all those creators of pieces that have become basics of many homes.

Determined to take a look at the long list of designers of these pieces we love, I start this serie.

Where to start?… trying to be as objective as possible, because there are no favourites, all are admirable, and I am unable to choose, let’s start by  A… Alvar Aalto

design, alvar aalto

Finnish, died in 1976 at 78 years. Key figure of Modernism, was a prolific architect and furniture designer.

Nearly all their creations were manufactured and distributed by ARTEK, factory he founded with his first wife Aino Marsio in 1935.

His pieces are characterized by the use of curved wood, which was pioneered and influenced many designers to be discussed later.

STOOL 60

In 2013 Artek was acquired by  VITRA, Swiss manufacturer of furniture design that, on the 50’s, acquired the rights to the designs of Charles and Ray Eames and George Nelson, who followed others like Verner Panton, Antonio Citterio, Philippe Starck, Jean Prouvé, Jasper Morrison, Isamu Noguchi, Maarten Van Severen or Eero Saarinen which we’ll discuss shortly.

Which one is your favorite ?? Maybe he is not in this list?…
